Difference Between Ice Maker Cooling Methods

Sep 21,2020

Ice maker is a kind of refrigeration mechanical equipment that produces ice after the water passes through the evaporator and is cooled by the refrigeration system refrigerant. It adopts refrigeration system which uses the water carrier to produce ice after passing through a certain equipment under power.

Ice maker usually has two cooling methods: water cooling and air cooling. They are two different cooling methods. The water-cooled radiator has a water inlet and a water outlet, and there are multiple water channels inside the radiator. Air cooling is a kind of cooling method, which uses air as a medium to cool objects that need to be cooled.

Air cooling is usually to increase the surface area of the object to be cooled, or to increase the rate of air flowing through the object per unit time. Water cooling is mainly composed of radiators, water pipes, water pumps, and sufficient water sources. This destined that most of the water cooling systems have a large "volume" and require sufficient space inside the case. The heat dissipation effect of water cooling is much higher than that of air cooling system.

I. Advantages and disadvantages

1. Advantages

Water-cooled ice maker: It lowers the condensing temperature of the refrigeration unit, improves the refrigeration efficiency; has good cooling effect and is suitable for medium and large refrigeration systems.

Air-cooled ice maker: It has no need of water resources, with low operating cost; it is easy to install and use, and no other supporting equipment is needed, and it can be put into operation as long as the power supply is connected; it is suitable for areas with severe water shortage or difficult water supply.

2. Disadvantages

Water-cooled ice maker: it consumes water resources and needs to install waterway system and water supply system.

Air-cooled ice maker: The high condensing temperature reduces the operating efficiency of the refrigeration unit, and it is not suitable for areas with dirty air and dusty climate.

II. Performance

Water-cooled ice maker: The water-cooling performance is stable, and the ice maker is effective for a long time. Ice-making in summer is not affected by the high temperature, and the ice production is stable. It is suitable for ice demand of large quantity and frequent use.

Air-cooled ice maker: Compared with water-cooling performance, air-cooling performance is not as stable as water-cooling. Therefore, the ice making effect is average and can meet the general ice demand.
